Creepy Things Schools are Doing to Students

Why do students have to use a hall pass? Because all schools enforce policies that don’t make much sense. What’s all this hubbub about hand raising, for instance? And, for the love of Mike, why can’t you enjoy a smoke in the privacy of the bathroom?

These problems have plagued kids for years. But today it’s worse than ever. Certain schools are enacting policies that are downright creepy...

1. Microchip Tracking

Leave it to the wild and crazy Brits to combine Harry Potter uniforms with James Bond technology. In England, a private school in South Yorkshire is tracking their students with microchips.

There are a few reasons for making these students wear RFID chips:

   1. To correctly identify them
   2. To determine if they’re on school grounds
   3. To determine if they’re in their proper class
   4. To easily reprogram them in the event of a robot war

Although it seems to make sense as a measure to combat ditching class, it also serves as a horrible invasion of privacy. The idea of bugging children makes students look and feel like inmates, when realistically only, say, 20% of them are headed in that direction.

2. Video Surveillance

For those schools who enjoy playing a much more balanced game of cat-and-mouse, video surveillance kits appear to be all the rage.

What better environment to foster learning than that of a supermarket, or perhaps a suburban casino boat? Really, what easier way is there to learn how to read than with the soothing mechanical buzzing of a zoom lens behind a dome of glass? Could there be a more efficient way to be outed as the kid who farted than through reviewing the infrared thermal footage? If you ask us, video cameras belong on movie sets, not in schools.

3. Confiscation of Cell Phones

In an effort to crack down on “sexting” amongst teenagers, several pervy principals have decided they have the right to confiscate and peruse the cell phones of their students.

By viewing the evidence first hand, these principals are allowed to punish students like the bad boys and girls they are. To us, this is the equivalent of principals of the 1960’s hiding behind the trees at make-out point, or the principals of the 90’s hiding out in the alley behind a teenager's house. Teenagers are going to get it however they can, and confiscating cell phones should be a job for mortified parents, not overly concerned principals.

4. Allowing Free-Range Four-Year-Olds

One Catholic school in Richmond, VA has declared a strict “hands-off” policy. This sounds like a welcome change from the negative stigma of corporal punishment surrounding Catholic schools. However, this policy has allowed one four-year-old boy to wander off on four separate occasions.

While the school claims that it is a “safe handling” issue, parents claim that it’s a “are you f#%*ing stupid” issue. Instead of physically stopping the boy, teachers followed him from a safe distance before alerting the authorities who then came to retrieve the child. Apparently this school believes that instead of endangering a teacher’s career by asking them to touch a child, it’s a much better idea to endanger it by having them follow the child, leave 27 other children alone unattended, and then call the police, wasting their time and taxpayer money. Though, being a Catholic school, they aren’t legally allowed to see any of the taxpayer money, so maybe this is their way of feeling included.

5. Sex Education (in Kindergarten)

It was bound to happen. You need to educate the masses before the babies start having babies, right?

One school in Montana isn’t taking any chances, by beginning sex education classes as early as kindergarten. Maybe this is a good thing. Countries like Italy and Spain, where children drink wine from a young age, don’t have nearly the problems with teen drinking that America does.

Perhaps if we begin sex education at 5, children will be over it by the time they’re 10 and be grizzled and put off by sex like an old married couple by the time they go to prom. It’s worth a shot.

6. Banning of Ethnic Studies

Recently, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer passed a bill banning ethnic studies in schools. This eliminates classes such as Latino Literature, or African American History, which had been taught in Arizona schools for years.

Many opponents of this bill of fail to see that eliminating these classes now makes room in the curriculum for more important and practical classes, such as White History, Caucasian Science and Master Race Phys. Ed.

Kudos to Arizona for expanding the horizon for all students… unless they are students of color, in which case they must drink from a separate fountain (located in New Mexico).

"Many opponents of this bill of fail to see that eliminating these classes

Didn't you
say he banned ETHNIC STUDIES? Not, all ethnic studies but those concerning
whites?

The comment you made was a knee-jerking childish one. Instead you
should have said it would make space for courses that will lead to better
futures (and jobs that are beneficial to themselves and society), rather than
taking something like Latin studies then working at Starbucks like a lot of
people do with courses they didn't think about quite through. Of course in some
cases people actually do find a use for these, but with most students that is
not the case. I do not endorse the ban on these courses however, in seems that
just about whenever someone thinks there should be a law, there really
shouldn't. I...

The reason for AZ eliminating 'ethnic' studies is because it consists primarily
of Hispanics and illegal aliens who are using the classes to recruit for 'La
Raza'.

If you need clarification, 'La Raza' means 'the race'... in particular,
mestizo racial solidarity and warfare.

You'll all be paying for them with
higher tuition rates in college. Eat it!

Seriously dude? Calm yourself, ain't that big of a deal. It was a joke, wasn't
like the writer of the article was directly insulting anyone, or any race for
that matter. It. Was. A. Joke.

Stop being a troll.

It isn't a joke, he is insult whites. And the reason for the bill (which is
wrongly stated in this article) was not to ban ETHNIC studies, but to stop
teaching the history of mexico INSTEAD of american history AND to stop many
schools from teaching hispanic children to hate america, amerians, and how to
overthrow the government. Quit calling white people racist, when this law only
had to be enacted because of antiwhite racism and anti american bigotry.

Someone NEEDS to overthrow our worthless and corrupt government. And what's this
about using ethnic studies for recruitment for hate? Sources please. Some people
take these courses out of interest. Since when are studies only relevant to
better employment? What ever happened to learning just for the benefit of
learning or self fulfillment? Conscious knowledge of quantum mechanics is
irrelevant to my job, yet I still learn and constantly update myself on the
subject. I don't see the problem with ethnic studies. Expanding cultural
knowledge is actually quite a benefit. Maybe you'll never actually implement
this knowledge but it will expand your worldview ans your overall intelligence.

I understand what people are saying but that is acualy ilegal, according to the

stop thinking one class or another. Just have a culture study class, or somthing
like that.

I completely disagree that sex ed for kindergarteners is a bad idea.

They're
not going to be grizzled like old married couples by the time prom happens.
*rolls eyes*. If anything they'd just be safer about it when the time comes.
I
figured out sex for myself when I was 5, and absolutely no emotional or
developmental scarring happened. I didn't sleep with anyone as a teenager,
because I knew the risks (and I knew about contraception, it wasn't abstinence
only sex ed).
In year 2, we were taught sex ed which was about the difference
between the genders (we concluded there was none, other than genitalia, when we
a***ysed our lists). It was a good thing.

My parents told me about a lot to do
with where babies come from when I was 3, because that was when my brother was
born.

Also, I suspect that you're a teenager, if you're complaining about
phones being confiscated when kids are using it to potentially sexually harass

Steve   |82.133.108.xxx |2010-10-25 15:47:03
Why is sex ed for kindergartners a bad idea? As long as it's not explicit it
makes sense that they know the basics so they don't go cluelessly 'exploring' as
young teens and end up pregant.

I also fail to see why confiscating cell phones
is a bad idea. Kids are in school to learn, not to fiddle with their phones.
Phones should be left at home, or at least in bags / desks during the school
day. If you think this is a bad idea you've clearly never taught a class where
you're trying to teach and they're all trying to use their phones.
Frank Grayson  - Another product of public schools   |71.87.97.xxx |2010-11-10 05:23:28
Are you brain-dead? The public schools really did a number on you. Have you
ever heard of "indoctrination"? Because you seem to be a victim of
it.

Why do little kids even have to be thinking about junk like that?! Let
them be kids and just worry about their toys and other childhood things.

Oh and
btw, this type of agenda for younger and younger kids to go through sex ed has
nothing to do with "helping them make good choices". It is to expose
them to sexual thinking so that it is normalized in them(and the adults) and
making them have sex and grow up earlier than they are supposed to. Because
that is what happens. Look around you.

Let kids be kids, I say.
Sam  - That's actually kinda misleading.   |184.77.81.xxx |2010-12-03 10:43:44
They're not teaching much in sex ed at age 5 - the purpose is to make sure they
know what kind of contact is inappropriate, to prevent them from being
abused/molested. That's hardly an "indoctrination."
McKensziey  - OMG   |75.71.220.xxx |2010-10-25 18:43:54
i think it is totally wrong to show sex education in kindergarten!!! I am just
starting sex ed and i am in 8th grade!! It is totally wrong!!!
Geoff  - Settle down, people...   |173.30.4.xxx |2010-10-27 04:35:46
The "sex" education in Kindergarten isn't about showing kids how to
insert the penis into the v@g!na. It focuses on teaching kids about
important, age-appropriate issues such as inappropriate touching.

Science is science, American history is American history, and exercise is
exercise, they are not subject to how much melanin a person has in their hide.
Ethnic studies are a waste of taxpayer money and the hispanic studies in So Cal,
for instance, have been turned into propaganda classes on how terrible America
is and great Mexico is and how students should go about turning So Cal back into
Mexico.

Or, maybe, they would like to ban Ethnic classes because all it is doing is
fostering an environment in which kids are viewing the different races, instead
of just looking at PEOPLE. I'm just getting sick of people always saying stuff
like that. If you don't want racism, stop making race such a big deal and
whining about it. If you want to be treated the same, then act the same, no
special months, or classes (Excluding college courses). People are people, and
people need to stop creating an environment for racism to flourish.

I dont mind the cameras one bit. When I was in JR High, a local gang of moron
kinds decided that I was their initiaton, That is, to get into the gang you had
to beat me to hell. I was really timid back then, I wouldnt have told any
teachers. But the camera footage said it all so I didnt have too, and one kid
went to juvinile detention after beating the crap out of me cause he was stupid,
and did it right in front of a camera.

My last year of high school a ton of people had their call phones taken. I was
just sad cause no matter how hard I tried I couldnt get mine taken away >.> I
would sit there with my phone under my desk staring at it and giggeling like a
school girl and the teacher would walk right past me. Talk about a let down! I
guess he just knew i was messing around.
Anonymous   |59.46.65.xxx |2010-11-21 06:51:03
This is clearly biased and uninformed.

I agree that some of this sounds stupid,
and I am opposed to some of them, but they were all done for one reason or
another.

The "Hands-off" policy is one that I've had to follow while
working for the YMCA. Even if kids dart toward a busy street, all we are allowed
to do is try to stand in front of them. Stupid? Yes. But look at how many
lawsuits there are from teachers and supervisors laying hands on students. I've
seen teachers lose their job over a hand on the shoulder.

Banning Ethnic
studies: the truth is, most students don't care about ethnic studies, and you
can't run a class without students. Again, I've seen teachers year after year
show up to teach a class, not enough students enrolled, the teacher was deemed
obsolete and fired. Not at all productive. Besides, there are tons of cultures
out there and we have students from all over the world. We can't realistically

I just graduated and am currently a freshman in college. I school had plenty of
ridiculous policies because it was new and wanted to create a high standard.

1.
If you are standing or wondering around the cafeteria during lunch, the
principal would escort you to a random table and make you sit there.

2. We
had a friggin JSC credit union and atm?? Meaning student who worked in the JSC
could see teacher's and student's bank balances

3. There were cameras
everywhere, but not in the classrooms. One of my teachers wanted to put a camera
in the classroom for career purposes, but needed 100% parental permission from
each student. She even bribed us with a pizza party, but nobody wanted to be on
camera. The cameras even picked up the senior prank that happened in the middle
on night outside the school.

4. If you were caught with a cell phone
in the hall, class, or lunch it was to be taken up and given to the boo...

Sweet dude. Ethnic studies is a worthless class.. you learn about the crap in
history and in college.. hence you don't need to learn about that stupid crap
now when you have no desire for it. You never learn in history how the black
people sold their own people into slavery though.. right? Or how Mexican
immigrants jump the boarder for what? To steal money and create gangs that
terrorize the the US. Sweet deal..I'd stick with the ban. Most of the people
don't even want to learn the truth because they'd cry about how they are equals.
There is no equals in the world. Schools simply must change to suit the
"poorly" trained student.. and keep the area safe from threats, which
occurs excessively now. Best way of correction is eliminate everything that
could cause a problem. School is still a prison cell that you must accomplish or
fulfill your sentence or you're just about as useful as the girls in two girls
one cup.

I like some of the things you're saying, but others not as much. I'll try
to be constructive in my criticism.

Issue 1: Confiscation of Cell Phones
Cell phones aren't confiscated because they want to try to stop
kids from sexting. It's going to happen anyway. The idea is that they
can stop the cell phones from disrupting the class or distracting them
from learning. If the phones are too loud, then those who want to hear what
the teacher is saying cannot, so the teacher has to provide for those
who want to listen and learn. It has nothing to do with the principal
either. The teacher gets the phone, not
the principal.

Issue 2: Sex Ed in Kindergarten

I understand that you're really only joking, but I seriously doubt that
they're teaching actual sex ed in kindergarten. They're probably only
teaching stuff like what is going on in a woma...
